Proudly serving Chelsea for over 31 years

Bruce Salser has been serving the Chelsea community for over 30 years. The former machinist and son of an auto mechanic had always done his own car work, so the transition for him to open 280 Auto Service in 1987 was an easy one.

Born and raised in Chelsea, Salser feels like his shop fills a need for the community. The shop has diversified into multiple makes and models over the years, and his business has grown along with the community.

Salser and his team of technicians can help with services including engines, timing belts, water pumps, tune-ups, brakes, anti-lock brakes, air conditioning and more.

Being in the Chelsea community as long as he has, Salser said he has second and third generation customers.

“If Grandpa came here in the first decade, the grandson is here now,” he said. “We get a lot of repeat work.”

Salser has two technicians that work at the shop, both with more than 20 years of experience. He mostly oversees their work, but is hands-on in the shop if needed. He also handles the office work, calls, customers and estimates.

His wife Cindy joined him at the shop in 2009. She handles the book work, answering phones and taking care of customers. She also works behind the scenes and makes sure the customers are taken care of.

The Salsers base their reputation on facts and honesty, and they say it has paid off.

“We want to treat people like we want to be treated,” he said.

Giving customers the diagnosis, prognosis and best course of treatment for their vehicles is their goal. If it needs to go to dealer or is under warranty, he refers to them as well.

“I’ll be here as long as my health allows me to,” Salser said. “The physical end for me isn’t hard now. I have two good, conscientious guys on staff now who pride themselves in what they do and it’s important in this business.”

Happy to be living and working in their community, the Salsers say they are thankful for their customers.

“I can look back and tell how God has blessed us,” Cindy Salser said. “He has answered some prayers in the last few years that have been amazing.”
