‘She just has a way with pets’

The sign of a good pet groomer is not just their skill with the scissors, but also the happy pups — and humans — that come through the doors. With 29 years of grooming experience, Lisa Marie at Everyday Pet Styles has achieved that.

“The dogs are being cared for with great love and appreciation,” Lisa Marie said. “They’re wagging when they leave, they’re wagging when they come in. That makes the owners happy.”

Ask any of her clients, and they’ll tell you Lisa Marie has an unusual gift for handling her four-legged clients. Lisa Bridges has taken her dog Balto to Everyday Pet Styles for his entire life because of Lisa Marie’s skill and friendliness.

“You felt good leaving your dog with her, that he was going to be safe and taken care of,” Bridges said.

No matter a dog’s temperament, client Mike May said Lisa Marie takes the time to get to know each pet and how to handle them in a stress-free way. His own dog, Cooper, tends to bark frequently but always listens to Lisa Marie.

“She just has a way with pets. She can calm them down and they seem to stay calm when they’re there,” May said. “She loves on them like we would, and more maybe, sometimes.”

Lisa Marie is not only a professional master groomer but also certified in pet CPR and first aid. She has many clients who come to her because they can trust her with a pet with special needs, illness, anxiety or past trauma.

“We help those dogs get through the grooming process with limited amounts of stress. We take the time to do that and our clients appreciate that,” Lisa Marie said.

Darlene Kelley has brought her dogs to Lisa Marie for around eight years. Her Bichon Frise, Jasmine, is a visitor at Everyday Pet Styles about every two weeks, and Kelley said she leaves looking as good as any dog in a national dog show.

“Lisa Marie goes over and beyond what she needs to do as a groomer because she cares about all dogs,” Kelley said.

Since Jasmine is 14 years old, she now has health issues related to arthritis and Cushing’s disease. Kelley said Lisa Marie has a talent for keeping her dog calm and adapts her methods to keep Jasmine comfortable throughout the process.

“She has just got a gift to groom these dogs. It’s not an easy thing to do,” Kelley said.

Lisa Marie grew up around dog grooming and bought Chelsea Pet Grooming, renaming it Everyday Pet Styles, about 11 years ago. A calm environment and personal attention to each dog’s needs sets her apart. They offer bathing, grooming, ear cleaning, nail clipping and filing, examination of coat and skin and teeth brushing, as well as medicated or flea baths, tick removal and specialty services such as Japanese grooming styles.

When dogs leave their appointments at Everyday Pet Styles, they not only look beautiful but Lisa Marie can update their owners on the health of their skin, coat, ears and teeth.

Everyday Pet Styles opens at 7 a.m., and the dogs begin arriving between 7 and 9 a.m. Appointments are preferred, but May said he never has any trouble scheduling Cooper for a visit. Senior and military discounts are also available.

Over the years, many of her regular clients have become her friends. Her approach to business remains the same: Find out what the customer wants, “and you do a little bit extra. A little bit extra always helps.”

Everyday Pet Styles, 8687 County Road 11, opens at 7 a.m. Tuesday through Friday and at 9 a.m. on Saturday. For more information, call 678-9385 or visit everydaypetstyles.com.
