The school’s new name “Heritage Christian Academy” is reflective of our rich heritage in Christian education and our commitment to Christ through excellence in the classroom and beyond. HCA faculty is composed of highly qualified and committed teachers who provide a rigorous academic program within a nurturing and supportive environment. Our class sizes are small by design to provide the opportunity for individualized attention for every student. At Heritage, your children are seen as uniquely gifted and created in the image of God.

OUR MISSION

“Our mission is to assist Christian parents in their responsibility to equip students for life through academics and service to Christ. The years spent at Heritage will be some of the most important in your child’s life. It is within the halls of Heritage that students will be mentored and discipled to grow in knowledge, wisdom, character and faith.” – HCA Headmaster, Brian Willett.

WHO WE ARE

Heritage Christian Academy is an independent Christian school serving grades K4-12. The HCA student body is comprised of a diverse community of families throughout the Birmingham metro area. Students at Heritage Christian Academy have the opportunity to explore and develop their talents in academics with Advanced Placement, honors and dual enrollment courses; arts, including choir, band and theater; and athletics, including multiple girls and boys sports.

Established in 1974, originally as Shades Mountain Christian School, Heritage Christian Academy enjoys a rich heritage in Christian education. The “Heritage” name plays tribute to the legacy and history reflective of the school founder, the late Richard “Dick” Vigneulle, who frequently quoted Psalm 127:3 “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.” Since Reverend Vigneulle’s vision to establish a school was realized 43 years ago, the school has continued to serve students and families, graduating over 1,000 alumni.

Heritage Christian Academy is foremost a decidedly Christian School where the spiritual development of students is central to all we do. Beginning with a faculty and staff committed to the spiritual mentoring of students, HCA offers several opportunities for students to grow in their Christian faith. HCA students also seek to give back to the community by participating in a variety of charity and service events, including collection efforts to raise money and supplies for those in need.

Heritage Christian Academy is fully accredited by AdvancED, formerly the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). HCA is also a member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). The faculty is comprised of committed Christians who hold degrees in their field of study and who feel called to serve in a Christian school environment. Teachers are state certified, many with master’s degrees, or certified through the Association of Christian Schools International.

“We welcome you to visit Heritage Christian Academy and to consider partnering with us in your child’s future. I personally invite you to Join the Heritage!” HCA Headmaster Brian Willett
